5k Race Logo Design for Covenant Care Services

Cool 5k Race Logo Design for Covenant Care Services in SavannahWe got to help create an awesome 5k race logo design recently, and I can’t wait to see this baby on tshirts! I got an email from my buddy Megan in my Pooler MOPs group recently that Covenant Care Services in Savannah needed some design help. They’ve been hosting a 5k run called the Trail of Hope for a few years now, and they were looking for help in updating their logo design so it would look more modern, inviting, and appealing to the public.

The biggest problem I saw with the original logo design was that it felt really stiff – I wanted to open it up and make it feel more fun, like any good 5k should be. Creating something hand drawn was definitely the way to go in terms of art technique!

5k Race Logo Design Sketch for Covenant Care Services in SavannahWorking closely with Megan and Heather from Covenant Care Services, I came up with some quick concept sketches. The one that stuck out as the strongest idea was creating the treads of a running shoe with all kinds of baby elements worked in. Their Trail of Hope 5k race is a pajama run, so the sides of the shoe’s treads featured a bunch of pajama pants as well.

As we discussed the art direction further, Heatherย told me babies aren’t all that Covenant Care Services is about. Helping the moms that are giving the babies up for adoption is a huge focus for them as well, and they really wanted that to be reflected in the design. The trail concept from their original logo (and the name of the Trail of Hope 5k race itself!) symbolized a journey and hope for the moms involved, and they really wanted to see that worked into the illustration.

Cool 5k Race Logo Design for Trail of Hope run - Covenant Care Services in SavannahWorking up the final hand drawn elements, I realized the shape of the Covenant Care Services logo really lent itself to being drawn as the top of the running shoe treads, and editing down the number of pajama pants on the sides opened the 5k race logo design up to other elements like a home and the path through the trees.

The curve of the path, I’m kind of in love with how well it cradles that sleeping baby…

Keep an eye on the Covenant Care Services website – they’ll be releasing 5k race info for the Trail of Hope run soon!
