Frequently Asked Questions

Where are art classes held?

Heritage Park
99 Lake Dow Road, McDonough, GA 30252

My weekly art classes with Henry County Parks and Recreation are held in Classroom 1 of the big building at Heritage Park.

Steph’s Arty Drawing Party sessions at the library are at a different library branch each time; please contact me if you need to confirm where you’re heading!

How much are classes?

My art classes with Henry County Parks and Recreation are $15 each week. This covers the art supplies we use and a professional working artist providing instruction specific to your personal project.

Steph’s Arty Drawing Party with The Henry County Library System is free.

What level is this art class for?

My art classes are for all levels of artists, from ultra beginners and beyond. I have been working as a creative professional for 25 years, which includes a lot of art direction experience. This gives me the unique ability to give personalized recommendations to grow each individual student’s skills in the areas they need it. If you’ve never taken a class before because you don’t think you can draw, please sign up!

What do we bring to class?

All supplies are included with your class fee.

What do I wear?

Please wear clothes that can get messy! Acrylic paints do not wash out of clothes; it’s best to wear something that you don’t mind having art supplies on permanently.

Is there any difference in the class time slots? We can make it to a couple of different ones.

The classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday will share the same art supplies and topics we’re learning about, but the projects will be vastly different from student to student because that’s the nature of having a room full of unique artists.

Will we do ceramics projects every month?

Each quarter, I’ll be sharing projects based on the elements and principles of art and design. Our materials will rotate throughout the quarter, and my goal is one ceramics project each quarter.

Is there an automatic way to sign up each week?

The Parks and Recreation registration system lets you sign up for individual classes through the next few months; you have to sign up for each individual date you’re interested in.

I have an art class mailing list – contact me if you’d like to be on it.

My 4 year old is very mature – can I sign them up for the ages 5-9 art class?

I’ve found my art classes are best suited to ages 5 and up, as they typically have a handle on a classroom-style atmosphere and need less hands-on help.

My partnership with Henry County Parks and Recreation means we’re using their CivicRec software for signups, which closely follows the age guidelines set up for each class.

Please do not change your child’s age in the system to sign them up before 5 years old. Thank you for understanding.

I have one child in the 5-9 age range and one in the 10-18 age range. Can they sign up for the older class on Monday together?

My partnership with Henry County Parks and Recreation means we’re using their CivicRec software for signups, which closely follows the age guidelines set up for each class. Thank you for understanding.

If you homeschool, though, my Tuesday homeschool art class is ages 5-18. They CAN both sign up for that one.

Can I bring my kids to sit and wait during the adult art class?

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources available to offer childcare during the adult art class. This is a one-hour art class just for adults, and we need to keep that low-key atmosphere in place so all can focus.

Is this a sip and paint class?

This is pretty different from a sip and paint style class! My classes have a topic we’re learning about, sketchbook time to practice and generate ideas for a piece of art, and then time to use legit art materials and techniques to create projects that are unique and personal to each artist. A sip and paint class will teach you specifically how to paint one thing – this class expands your horizons and helps you learn how to paint or draw anything!
