Summer of Art Inspiration Part 1: Packaging and Lettering

This summer is the most active, adventure-filled summer I’ve had in a long time! A lot of it stems from being fully committed to making sure our five year old Phil has tons of fun on his very first summer vacation. A happy side effect of this has been hitting up some of my favorite local thrift and consignment shops for a fresh batch of art inspiration. I’ll be sharing some choice goodies over the next couple of weeks – stay tuned!

Today I wanted to share some cool vintage packaging and lettering I saw.

Vintage Erector Set - Art Inspiration and Thrift Store Finds

I love this packaging – the clean fonts, the natural texture the images have just from being aged… The way the kid is rendered is awesome, too.

And then you pop the box open, and it’s got the best vintage script font ever on the planet inside. And tons of tiny little parts for boys to tinker with.

I seriously considered getting this set for Phil, but I know nothing of Erector sets and whether this was a) pretty much including all it’s parts or b) fully functional.

Stop and Go sign - Art Inspiration and Thrift Store Finds

This is like one of those visual tricks where you write the names of colors using different colored markers.

Try it – write the word blue while using a red pen.

It’ll mess with you.

Vintage wood crate - cotton club cleveland - Art Inspiration

Totally love the blocky font and layout of this text.

Vintage wood crates with sunflower art and lettering - Art Inspiration

I’m also digging the sunflower artwork, as well as the lettering with the swooping flourishes in the word Sunflower that tie the word in with the elements above and below it.

I’ve got more bits and pieces of inspiration to share with you soon – stay tuned!
