With Joy being so very attached to her muhmuh’s hip, it’s totally taken me out of commission in helping out at Living Faith Church in ways I used to before she was born. I used to spend some Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the nursery… which can’t really happen when there’s a baby on the hip. I used to hang out in the media booth every now and then, running the slides for the singers and the sermon… Which can’t really happen when there’s a squirmy baby girl on my lap that can’t make it through a church service without snacking. She takes after her parents, obviously.
But I’ve been getting involved other ways, with projects that are so very perfect for my skillset. Last week, Erika asked if I could help put together the bible verse book for the little ones in the nursery, and I had a blast creating a coloring book for them that I could also share as free coloring sheets with a wider audience.
Phil’s got this great toddler bible that he’s read cover to cover multiple times. The art is adorable, but I really wanted to make my coloring sheets depict the verses in a way that a kid could relate to. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says
16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus.
The first couple of pages were easy – happy kid, praying kid. I struggled a little bit with the last two verses… How could I hit home? I thought maybe something a kid would really understand is one of their toys breaking. We can explain to our kids that sometimes bad things happen, but God’s always looking out for us, and he sometimes sends people into our lives that can help. Believing that can help us get through the tough times.
