I don’t think I showed you these building illustrations I created for Hartford Healthcare last year yet!

I had a blast drawing these in early 2015 for use in a magazine ad. The separate drawings were hand drawn, then colored in Photoshop in layers, which would allow the client to edit the colors of the buildings as needed on their end. They were created to have transparent backgrounds as well, which would allow Hartford Healthcare to line them up next to each other as needed for their magazine ad!

This traditional school building had so many fun little details to draw, like in the architectural elements surrounding each window frame!

Here’s one of Hartford Healthcare’s buildings, the Backus Hospital Family Health Center. Building drawings like these are awesome because they really challenge you. Can you keep it a tiny bit loose and arty and fun while still keeping it looking realistic and professional enough? It’s a fun challenge for sure, and to give it a little extra edge I mix in some hard ruler lines with the wonky elements like the bases of the columns.

You can’t draw a clock tower without thinking about Back to the Future. It’s a science fact.

Here’s another illustration of one of Hartford Healthcare’s buildings – The Hospital of Central Connecticut. Again – we kept it super clean and straight and professional, but injected some fun with more loosely drawn bushes in front and happy balloons mirroring the logo colors of the client.

This drawing of a Lifestar helicopter was hands down my son Phil’s favorite illustration from this project.

While this awesome red barn drawing was my own personal favorite. The barn here at our place is in a little bit of need of some major massive TLC action, so creating this illustration was a little bit sigh inducing in its bright red, well maintained state.

Welcome to the library! It just makes me happy when I get to draw stuff like this.

The color of this house makes me smile because it’s the same as my mom in law’s house.

Making it this color wasn’t an accident.

My mom in law is rad.

(If you’re noticing the guy with the two kids maybe looks a little like Josh… Well… Yeah. And that caped shirt? Absolutely inspired by our son’s obsession with wearing his Superman shirt as much as humanly possible.)
