My Flapper Illustration Made it into The Coloring Studio Magazine!

Updated 8/30/16 with links – you can now buy this issue online!

At the end of last week, I got an email from the UPS Store that I had a package. I wasn’t expecting anything, so I kind of assumed it was junk mail of some kind.

When my son Phil and I were out running errands, we stopped in at my mailbox and picked it up. It was a pretty nondescript package – one of the flimsy plastic envelopes you’d put something in that wasn’t fragile. It felt like maybe it was a catalog inside. I prepared myself for junk mail, and opened it on the spot so I could just leave it in the trash can.

What I pulled out of the envelope was way better.

The Coloring Studio magazine totally accepted my illustration of a sassy 1920s flapper dame for their Autumn 2016 issue!!

OMG!!!!!

I very quickly became the UPS Store’s most obnoxious customer as I started squealing with glee.

I embarrassed my five year old as I tore through the magazine looking for my drawing. There it was, right there on page 49.

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this – my shift to illustration has been nothing but positive. I feel like I’m getting signs from all over that I’m on the right path, that I’m finally doing what I’m supposed to be doing with my career.

I’m frustrated that I didn’t start down this road years ago.

This issue of The Coloring Studio will be available in stores September 1, and I would love if you would snap a pic of it if you see it in the wild! Don’t forget you’re looking for the Autumn 2016 issue!

You can also get a copy online via Amazon today, and if you order through a link on this page I’ll get a little credit for referring you. It’s a great way to help support an independent artist!

I’d love if you’d post a photo of your copy as you pick it up in stores, or share what you create with my happy lady. Upload your photos to my Facebook page or email them to me at hi@stephcalvertart.com so I can share them in an upcoming blog post!

Happy coloring, everyone!
