Moms Day Out in Downtown Savannah

During the Christmas break, the most amazing thing happened. I got a babysitter, my mom in law Carole picked me up, and we had a Moms Day Out in downtown Savannah, Georgia.

Moms Day Out is all about going to places that smell good. Stores that are full of beautiful inspiring things that recharge your design batteries. Fancy coffee is a must. You don’t even have to buy anything. Just soak it all in, without being constantly jostled like you’re on a subway train for the first time in days.

Don’t get me wrong. I love, love, love my kids.

But Moms Day Out was so needed. December was a rough month – Josh did a bunch of overtime, and I had more on my plate at home than usual. Moms Day Out was so needed. (P.S. Why do we moms feel like we need to explain over and over why we need breaks?)  Keep reading to see where Carole and I went, and to bask in the glow of some design inspiration.

Paris Market

Paris Market is chock full of European style and little tiny details. It smells amazing, and before you know it you’ve spent an hour exploring the two floors of goodies.

I love the racks of vintage jewelry findings. I’m not a jewelry maker… it’s just never been a craft I feel like I’ve ever been all that great at. But these supplies make me want to try again. Over and over.

I know if we wait long enough, it’s just a matter of time before we find our own deer antlers in our yard for free. But that might take years. These are ready to come home with me now.

This gorgeous, neat, and tidy office is not my office.

And my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Anthropologie

I was sad that the 606 East Cafe was closed by the time we had moved here, but when Anthropologie moved into the space I got over it. Quick.

I like to type amongst the trees. It’s where I work on my great American novel.

I love the idea of creating little dioramas inside crates mounted to the wall. I wanna do something like this on my mantle over the fireplace too, someday.

Love this geometric repeat pattern – I’d love to see something like this hand drawn with watercolor elements.

I kind of like the idea of a staggered bunch of paintings or wall art featuring holiday motifs in my house.

I dig this feather print. Like, a lot.

One recurring theme on our shopping adventure… Carole and I have both decided we love animal heads. Taxidermy ones, classy ceramic ones, cardboard ones, we love em all.

Tuesday Morning and HomeGoods

After shopping along Broughton Street in downtown Savannah, Moms Day Out advanced token to Southside. We hit up Tuesday Morning and HomeGoods, where I picked up a couple of supplies for the office and some organizing gear for the house.

That organizing thing feels like it’s a losing battle. But at least I’m relaxed enough to accept it now 🙂

When was your last Moms Day Out?

Where did you go, and what did you do?
