ART CLASSES FOR KIDS IN MCDONOUGH

Thank you so much for your interest in art classes for kids in McDonough or Henry County, Ga. Iโ€™ve had to let go of teaching frequent classes to focus on the illustration side of my career, but Iโ€™d still love to work with you! I am currently available for freelance illustration, logo design, surface pattern work & art licensing, as well as custom art projects for collectors.

My open-ended teaching style is a great fit for kids ages 5 through high school. Students are encouraged to use the creative process to generate their own unique ideas for art projects in a variety of media as we explore the principles and elements of art and design.

New for summer 2024 – art classes are back, baby! If you’re the parent of a rising 5th through 9th grade student, I’ll be teaching that 9am-3pm class for Henry Arts Alliance’s Summer Art Camp. We’ll be working in a variety of media, visiting a local framing shop, and closing out the week with an art show.

Visit Udemy for online art classes I’ve recorded as videos. Did you miss one of my individual project classes, or did a class fill up? Do you live outside the Henry County area? As time goes on, I’ll create a video of each of these projects so you can have fun making art with me no matter where you live.

Class Policies: Art Classes for Kids in McDonough and Henry County

If the class you need is full and you need room for one additional sibling or two, please email stephcalvertart@gmail.com.

During art classes, we’ll learn about art principles and the elements of design as we create work in a variety of mediums and techniques. Students will be encouraged to use the creative process as they create work individual to them, and be given opportunities to engage in constructive discussions about their work. Sometimes we’ll have the opportunity to discuss major current events in the art world, have opportunities to showcase our work, and discuss opportunities to see artwork by established artists up close in person.

Art Supplies: For the most part, art supplies are included in the cost of your class. There may be a small additional project fee for certain projects. (An example of this: when my kiln is operational, we may have a fee for ceramics projects.)

Illness policy: Do not bring sick kids, or kids recently exposed to illness, to class. Do not bring kids to class if they have thrown up in the past 24 hours. Need to talk about a student illness? Please email stephcalvertart@gmail.com.

Henry Arts Alliance’s summer art camp is a drop-off day camp, while my own personal classes are not a drop-off service. If your child is 5 or under, they will need hands-on help from you to participate. My classes are meant to be fun and creatively engaging for the kids. I have specific projects I’ll be leading, but if your child veers off the theme of the day to draw or paint something off-topic, please do not interrupt as I help guide them in their own creative needs. (If your student is prone to wandering off or needs more constant redirection and support, then your help is absolutely needed. Thank you!)

Parents are responsible for all bathroom breaks with children during class.

Snacks and Drinks. Students are welcome to bring a water bottle to every class. If your class is an all-day camp class, snacks and lunch are mandatory. A small snack is okay for classes 2 hours or less, but we will not be pausing class for snack breaks.

Please have kids dress in clothes that can get messy! I will have clean t-shirt smocks the students can wear over their clothes; along with that please don’t ever wear your Sunday best to class.

In the event of weather: We will meet if it’s cold out; please dress accordingly. If there is rain, outdoor classes will either find an alternate location for that day or reschedule.

All sales for class are final. I need time and money to pull art supplies together; thank you for understanding. I am making room in my illustration business calendar to teach art classes for kids in McDonough and Henry County, GA to help bring up the next generation of artists. Because of this, make-up lessons outside our scheduled class dates and times are not available for missed lessons by individuals. If you need to miss a class due to illness/Covid, weโ€™ll resolve on a case by case basis.

Class Policies for Drawing Club with Steph Calvert Art

This event is transitioning from a small class into an all-ages opportunity for the community to come together and draw on the last Tuesday of every month. Check-in at the sign-in table in the grassy area of Queen Bee Coffee for the monthly theme and to be entered in a drawing for free art goodies!

You are responsible for your children at this all-ages community drawing event.

As this is a come one all type of event, if youโ€™ve got your own drawing supplies you enjoy working with please bring those. Free sketchbooks and pencils will be on hand for any kid who needs them, to help out folks who didnโ€™t have a moment to grab anything to draw with, families with lots of kids who have a hard time getting out the door and organizing supplies, or curious passerbys who wouldnโ€™t have tried drawing on a random Tuesday in the community otherwise.

You are welcome to draw wherever you like, but please clean up after yourself. Whether you sit at Queen Bee or in the square, please pick up all trash and keep your art on your paper. Thank you!
