That Free Antivirus Software is Gonna Cost You

A few years ago, when I lived in Long Beach, I had just gotten a new laptop. A couple of months into using it for my web design and illustration business, I started having problems with it. I found a great computer repair place in Signal Hill; they fixed it up and sent me on my way. They told me sometimes Norton Antivirus can cause problems, and that they recommended the free antivirus software called Avira.

This was like 7 or 8 years ago, and that’s what I’ve used ever since.

When my computer repair guy here in Georgia heard that as he was building my new machine last summer, he told me ummmm no, you should be using ESET. It’s the best antivirus software around, he said. It’s what Microsoft uses to protect their machines, he said.

But oh, no, I like to save money. So I stuck with my free antivirus software.

Which worked fine.

Until this morning.

The day started out promising – Phil went to play at Caleb & Ella’s house for a few hours, and I was pumped to have a quiet office to be super productive in. I dropped Phil off, returning home with an ambitious list of tasks for my clients. I turned my computer on.

Or I tried to.

It wouldn’t turn on.

So I called up my computer guru Dylan Riggs, and he says bring it in to the shop. And then I had to work on my laptop. Which wasn’t as good. And then I had to make another 45 minute round trip to pick it up. And give Dylan more money than a year of ESET costs to fix the computer virus issue that had shut down operations.

That free antivirus software is eventually gonna cost you, my friends.

Just sheck out for some super strong protection, ok? Try any ESET product with a 30-day Free Trial. PC, Mac, Linux, Android and Windows Mobile platforms.

And while you’re at it, protect your WordPress website with one of our monthly maintenance packages. We’ll help you keep your files and database backed up, and keep your software up to date with the latest security releases every single month.

I will tell you, the second Dylan told me the computer had a bug, I thought of Always Sunny. Enjoy!
