My dino loving kids LOVED this book and the other 3 in the series. They are funny and educational. They also enjoyed the scavenger hunt at the end of each book.

I bought this book for my grandson who loves dinosaurs and pirates. He thought it was very funny and I really enjoyed reading it to him.

In case it ever crossed your mind that dinosaurs once sailed the sea as pirates, let me assure you that there was not a single stegosaurus on board the dinosaur pirate ship. Through an entertaining story and wonderful illustrations, Gary the Stegosaurus describes his failed foray into the world of piracy. He has only the best intentions, but he almost capsizes the pirate ship, his tail tears the ship’s sails, and he breaks the mast when he tries to sit in the crow’s nest. This funny picture book will delight its young readers. As an added bonus, there is a treasure hunt at the end of the book to find facts about the stegosaurus.I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

While I will likely purchase “Stegosaurus Would NOT Make a Good Pirate” (and the rest of the series) for my school library, I was slightly disappointed. When reviewing pictures books, I’m considering if it would make a good read-aloud (story or illustrations). I need at least one or the other (both is fantastic) to keep my audience interested. I may not have like it as much as another dinosaur series with dinosaur silliness, but I’m sure my students will. The review questions and additional information at the end is a nice bonus.

Two of my favorite things growing up as a child? Pirates and dinosaurs! So imagine my delight when coming across this book. For me, the T-Rex is my all time favorite, but a Stegosaurus pirate is still pretty cool. This would be a nice gift for any child that loves either of those subjects (or both!). The pictures are colorful the dinosaur cute, and the situations silly. Poor stegosaurus tries to be like the other pirates, but he’s too big, too heavy and just not built for piracy. Amusingly, he chooses a different profession at the end. After the story, the author includes a few informational pages on the dinosaur, so it isn’t just fun and games. Kids will learn a bit about the stegosaurus, such as the purpose of the plates on his back. I received a free ebook in exchange for my honest review. And honestly, this would have been a book I would have picked up for my kids.

Ahoy, me mateys! This book were bein’ a fun ride. Chock full o’ colourful pictures and plenty o’ pirate characters, I enjoyed readin’ this story. Gary the Stegosaurus does his best t’ please Cap’n One-Tooth. Avast! He gets fired!Gary was not bein’ the right size for pirate clothes, he be too big, his tail be too spiky, he not be eatin’ pirate food, and he not be good at countin’. Maybe there be ‘nother job perfect for a Stegosaurus, eh?Cap’n Thomas Kingsley Troupe, ye did a good job. Cap’n Steph Calvert, ye drawin’ ability be full o’ whimsy. Lads and lasses, they be enjoyin’ this here book.Thank ye to NetGalley and Capstone for givin’ me the opportunity to be readin’ this here book. Arrr!

Gary the Stegosaurus tells us all about his quick adventure as a pirate. He wanted to be a good pirate, but things just didn’t seem to work out. His clothes didn’t fit, he accidentally shredded the sails, and he’s literally too big for the ship! This was a lot of fun. We quickly learn that something like being a pirate may seem like a lot of fun but it isn’t for everyone. It’s always a good idea to try, though!I love that there are pages in the back of this picture book with interactive material such as discussion questions, a glossary for both dino and pirate words that some might not know, facts about stegosauruses, and more!I received a free temporary ecopy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A stegosaurus attempts to adapt to the pirate life. But from the fit of pirate clothes, to being too big for the ship, to being a plant-eater, everything just goes wrong. And he gets fired.A silly little book, really, best suited for a younger one. The book does make some effort to educate about stegosauruses, with three educational pages at the end.I was provided a copy for review by the publisher.
