Phil’s been a muhmuh’s boy for as long as I can remember. And he’s always been into Josh, but lately something’s been different.

There’s been a shift – he’s not any less into me, I don’t think… But nowadays, Phil is WAY into his dad.

I don’t know if this is a byproduct of his sister Joy coming into the world. Maybe she needs so much attention from mom that Phil’s feeling it.

Maybe his dad is funnier – he certainly makes more fart jokes than I do, and that’s way popular with the three year old set.

Maybe Phil’s just growing up.

I don’t know if I’m ready for that, but it makes me ridiculously smiley to watch these two together:

They might be doing lottery scratchers together.
We might be the best parents in the world.

And when dad joins us at Fancy Coffee Friday? There’s nothing that makes this little boy happier than ordering TWO chocolate muffins the size of his head. One for him, and one for his dad.

Phil’s reaction to his dad lately reminds me of the old Mercer Mayer books, and especially the one called “Just Me and My Dad“. The way Little Critter talks about his dad in that book… It is so how Phil talks about his dad right at this moment in his life.

There are times where I’m talking to Phil now, where all of a sudden he’ll stop short and get a little smile on his face. I’ll ask him, “What’s going on?”

“I have to go and find my dad.”

It is literally the best thing ever. Happy Father’s Day, Josh. We joke about it all the time, but I kind of suspect you really are Father of the Year.
