Halloween Fun: Phil the Superhero (with video!)

I love a good dose of Halloween fun, and yesterday was chock full of it!

It was a slow work day, so we were all able to finally carve pumpkins. I was actually getting kind of anxious that we wouldn’t get around to that part of Halloween this year; Josh is workin nights now, and I’m workin days, and the weekends seem like they’re so packed. And as it got just a little closer and just a little closer to Josh’s head to work time, I got a little more anxious. But we were able to make it happen, and I was able to calm down.

I don’t do so well with being late, or even just feeling like I’m gonna be late. Even if no one else cares what time I get somewhere, I still get crazy anxious… and it’s not super pleasant sometimes. I kind of really hate that.

But pumpkins happened, and they were awesome:

It’s funny how even at 3 years old, Phil has a very distinct way he wants his art projects to look. Josh helped him with the pumpkin on the right, and they just couldn’t seem to get together on the mouth. No matter how huge a gaping smile Dad created, Phil frustratedly told him it wasn’t happy enough. And when the smile took up almost the entire pumpkin, and there was no turning back… we were a little worried. Until we decided to let him try again on the second pumpkin we were carving. The pumpkin on the left is what he means by a really happy smile.

And these babies look even better at night:

There’s Halloween fun to be had all this week! Churches all over town are hosting Trunk or Treat events, and my own church Living Faith is doing a food drive for a southeast Georgia food pantry. If you’d be interested in dropping food off, they have office hours Monday through Thursday during the day or you could pop by for Sunday morning’s service to put canned goods in the box near the door. We’re heading out Wednesday night to hand out flyers to local residents to let them know about the food drive, and I’m pretty sure Phil will be wearing his “black scary cat” costume. (Shhhh… it’s not really all that scary. But please act terrified when you see him.)

He’s gotten really into dressing up for Halloween this year, and isn’t scared of trying on masks anymore! I had taken him to Wal-Mart last night to pick up a few groceries and some LED candles to put in our newly carved jack-o-lanterns. Every time we’re at Wal-Mart, this kid HAS to go down all of the toy aisles. He doesn’t even care if we buy anything. He just wants to look.

And this time, he found the superhero masks.

Hope your week’s full of Halloween fun, too! What do you have going on to celebrate?
