Narwhal Coloring Sheet

This narwhal coloring sheet I drew last month is so special to me, and I’m excited to share it with you!

I just really love this drawing. It’s one of the first pieces I got inspired by once our kids headed back into the school building during Covid times. It’s weird hitting a point in life where you feel like you might not have any art inside you anymore. This illustration was like coming home and getting that part of me back, and I didn’t even care that it was for an art contest.

I generally don’t participate in art contests. I do make an exception if the prompt is really interesting or inspiring, or if there are art director judges who could potentially bring freelance illustration projects my way. It also needs to produce something I can be proud to add to my illustration portfolio.

Because check this out. It’s a numbers game, and if there’s 40 spots available in a charity print project and over 600 artists send in submissions… You have to be realistic that a very good number of those are going to be professional artists like you. When you go into an art contest fully expecting your work might not make it to the next round of review, and you just make the art that you really want to make, the piece turns out amazing.

And you don’t mind as much when it’s not picked.

Just kidding you still mind, LOL. Just not quite as much.

You don’t get all emo and despondent at least.

This narwhal coloring sheet was created for Jehane Ltd’s Caring Coloring 2 coloring book call for art. Caring Colouring 2 is a Colouring Book to Protect our Oceans. 100% of profits will be given to the Sea Change Project to help with the regeneration of the South African kelp forests. While I was not one of the chosen artists in the coloring book, I had a really great time drawing this coloring page, and I’m passing it on to you as a free download!

You can click here to download your own narwhal page. I would love to see your finished work! Save this to your phone or tablet and color it digitally or print it and use crayons. Then share it on social media and make sure to tag @stephcalvertart on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter!

Please note: it’s bizarre that I need to say this, but this narwhal coloring page is for personal use only. Please email stephcalvertart@gmail.com if you’d like to discuss licensing this image. Thank you!
