Google Analytics: How Y’all Got Here

It’s always fun to fire up Google Analytics to find out how people are finding this site. One time, someone got here by typing “laser schwing”. Which of course is awesome.

Here’s 10 keyword searches that brought folks to good ol’ Hearts and Laserbeams in November:

1) A whopping 20 people have come to my site with the search “mick jagger kesha” in the last month. That’s not counting the folks that got here using different combinations of that same basic phrase. This is astounding to me.ย Did they findย what they were looking for in this blog post about Kesha’s “Tik Tok“. Doing the Google search for that set of words myself, I found that lots of people out there want to know if Kesha is Mick Jagger’s daughter. I see the crusty resemblence, but the answer is probably no.

Mick Jagger and Kesha
A quick artist's rendition of the most popular thing bringing people to Hearts and Laserbeams. Yeah, I don't get it, either.

2) 4 people got here uing the words “pug drawing”. AWWWWWWWWWWW. Click through the drawing portfolio. You’ll see it.

3) A couple of people were looking for “birthday banner tutorial”. I got you covered right here, folks.

4)ย A couple of others found the site with the search “craftcation”. Haven’t heard of that yet? It’s an indie biz conference coming up in March 2012, and I’ll be leading some workshops there! AND I’m working on their website! AND if you register now, you get a discount! Oh snaps, you better go check it out.

5) “laser wolf sweatshirt”. RAD!!!

6) I think I totally helped at least one person in their “convert pdf to black and white” search – here’s the link to the tutorial!

7) I hope the person that was searching for “handmade laser beams instructions” eventually found what they were looking for, and that they use their new laser beam for the forces of good, not evil.

8) I also hope the person looking for “las vegas mobile billboards” found what they needed, because Jenn and I aren’t really ladies for hire. Unless you pay lots.

9) True story, you can use the S word in Words With Friends. Apparently someone was looking for proof when they searched “crap words with friends”. We’re here to help.

10) Someone also got here with the search “what vendor are going to be at the patchwork indie arts & craft festival 11/6/2011”. That is really specific. Probably sign up for the mailing list at the Patchwork show website for that one.

Here’s something interesting… I used to get lots of totally ridiculous search engine phrases, but now it’s much less so. I’ve been changing up how I blog a little, making things a little more relevant to what I do while still talking about life in general. And I’ve been tagging the heck out of posts with nice relevant keywords.

Moral of the story? People are finding me through some stabs in the dark for sure (“the great team names”?), but the glut of searches that have been bringing people to Hearts and Laserbeams lately have been searches where people want what I’m selling. (“sailor jerry bottle images”. No wait. I mean “cupcake drawings”.)

Business has been really busy lately, with new client inquiries almost weekly, and while some of that is referrals from current clients, others are contacting us because we’ve been focusing a little more on search engine optimization and keywords.

  1. I found your site by searching for “poisons to kill my husband.”. Now I guess you could wonder why I searched that, and i ofcourse would want to know why you are blogging about it. So, let’s just say this never happened. You forget about my husband and I’ll forget about the poison.
