Kitty High Five!

I’ve heard Phil talk about Kitty High Five a few times now – always quick mentions of it, and then we move on to other topics of conversation. All I knew about it was that it was a song that he and his friends sang at school… Nothing else.

This morning, it came up again as we were doing the morning get ready for school routine. I got him to describe it a little more, and it sounded like a silly made-up song that a bunch of kids invented. He was telling me that it was basically about a bunch of stuff that cats don’t really do. As he listed all of the things in the song the cat does that cats don’t really do in real life, he quietly sang one line of the song. “Kitty high fiiiiiiiive…” and he trailed off when he realized I was listening.

In my head, I pictured a bunch of cats all Lonely Island “I’m on a Boat” style high fiving each other and doing lots of rad things they don’t get to do in their everyday lives.

Since I had a tiny bit of time before work, I drew it.

I made it my goal to get Phil to sing the whole Kitty High Five song for me, because it just sounded like hilarious good times.

This evening at the dinner table, I gently prodded to find out more about the song.

Because now, you see, I’m obsessed with this mental picture of party cats.

And Phil mentions seeing the song on a tv at school.

And the second he went to bed I looked it up on YouTube.

And Kitty High Five is totally a thing.

This is the most amazing thing I’ve seen all day, and the single best thing that’s come out of Phil being in preschool so far.
