Red Hair Care: Let’s Ask the Experts!
A very interesting question about red hair care was asked in the comments of our Homemade Dry Shampoo Recipe post months ago. Penelope L. asked:
“I have natural red hair (not red red, but not strawberry red), what can I use for dry shampoo that wonโt make my red lighter than it already is?”
I had to admit to myself that I had no idea how to answer that question. So I brought in some experts to help me out! All week long, we’ll be hearing from experts in red hair care – they’ll give their best answer to Penelope’s question, as well more tips on how to keep those natural and not so natural red locks looking their best!
Meet Stephanie and Adrienne Vendetti. The sisters, best friends, and natural-born redheads are founders of the popular website How to be a Redhead. There are many dry shampoos on the market, but the most common are in spray or powder form. Here is How to be a Redhead’s expert advice:
Powder Dry Shampoos
One of the best dry shampoo’s on the market is blow Pro Faux Dry Shampoo. It is light weight and applies to the hair without making red hair lighter. After application, the hair looks like you just washed and styled it.
If you’re in a pinch and can’t opt for a commercial dry shampoo, try a little bit of baby powder. This will lighten the hair a bit, so use very sparingly. Start at the root and work in hair.
Bumble and Bumble Red Hair Powder For All Shades Of Red. It is a powdered form dry shampoo for redheads! It sounds like a dream come true, and in some situations it is, but make sure to not run your fingers through your hair too many times or you’ll find red residue underneath your nails and on your hands. It is perfect to make hair look clean before an undo or fancy hairstyle and secured with hairspray.
Spray Dry Shampoos
Dry shampoos in spray form will lighten the hair more than any other option. But, if you’re at the drugstore and need a dry shampoo pronto, Tresemme Shampoo Fresh Start Dry
is a great buy.
Thanks so much to the gals from How to Be a Redhead for their great answers to our red hair care questions! They invite everyone to join them atย Rock it like a Redhead on March 16, 2013. I am so excited about this week of redhead hair tips!! I tried the Bumble & Bumble one red heads and I personally didn’t like it and so never used any again. The thought is using dry shampoo has once again become an interest…. I am eager to check out the blow Pro faux and see if that works better for my red hair.
Seriously, I’m so excited about this week!! Though it’s made me realize, reading the tips that are getting posted throughout the week, that I’ve never taken care of my dyed red hair the way I should be. I’m due for a touchup soon, and you can bet I’m going to be trying out some of this stuff to see how long I can make the color last this time!
I want to try that Bumble and Bumble hair powder now. Although, my hair is light enough that the sprays work well without lightening it too much. I use the Suave spray like water.
Suave released a new dry shampoo recently, and I was jazzed that there was a super affordable option… But then I tried it and it was only so-so… I’m still a huge fan of my homemade dry shampoo!
