Tybee Pirate Fest: An Odyssey
Last Friday, we made the trek across Savannah for swashbuckling fun at the Tybee Pirate Fest. We had never gone before, and it sounded like fun!
We piled into the car and got on the 21 heading towards Savannah. Where we were greeted with completely stopped, bumper to bumper traffic. Spirits rose as we exited onto Bay Street for a brief jaunt downtown. We hadnโt even gotten close to Tybee Island yet and we were already seeing Pirates!
Traffic continued to lag for most of the rest of the drive out, but really Iโm okay with that. Thereโs not much to complain about when you have huge expanses of wetlands to look at!
At last, eighty hours later, we got to Tybee Pirate Fest.
Hereโs the thing about going to something like Tybee Pirate Fest. You should do a tiny bit of homework beforehand. Upon finding a primo parking spot near the festival, we all graced the row of porta potties with our presence. And then found out we werenโt supposed to be in the festival area at all, because they werenโt open until 5pm on Friday.
Oh. Whoops. I think we had just kind of rearumed it was an all day thing.
So we traipsed on down the main row of tourist shops, where Phil inspected each and every toy car.
We paused for snacks at Fannies, but not for long. Phil was rarinโ to go go go!
We walked down towards the pier and noticed the Marine Science Center.
None of us had ever gone, so in we went! At 4 bucks a person the price is right, and itโs not an all day affair. You can walk through fairly quickly, and see lots of cool stuff.
Like this gator!
And this touch tank!
They also had this great display of sands from all over. Check out how different Georgia sand is from Californiaโs. Just to note, we also looked up the water temperature later that night because we saw so many people swimming. And I’m going to the beach soon. The water was 78 DEGREES.
Once we left the Marine Science Center, we headed to the pier.
We saw lots of fish in buckets, and one guy had quite a load to clean before he could cook up his dinner:
After all of this, it was just after 5pm.
Time for Tybee Pirate Fest!
Wait, never mind.
It was $15 a person to get in. Weโre too cheap for that and Phil was fading fast so instead we went home.
Avast, matey, ye land lubbers are gonna have to read someone elseโs review of Tybee Pirate Fest!
Yo ho ho, whereโs my bottle of rum?
